AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League have announced today that one of their amateur players who was part of their Central Hockey League playoff team has been signed for the 2004-2005 season.

Defenseman Bill Cass, who appeared in three of the CHL semi-final playoff games for the Gorillas, will be patrolling the blue-line for the black, red, grey and white.

"I am really looking forward to coming to Amarillo," said Cass. "I thought I wasn't going to be playing hockey again and I jumped at the opportunity to join the Gorillas. I was even more excited when I got the chance to play."

In those three games, Cass logged extra ice time due to injuries to some of the key players. He did not post a point, but had two penalty minutes.

"Bill stepped into a difficult situation last year coming out of college and jumping right into a tough series against Laredo," said Gorillas Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras. "He showed a lot of poise and was not afraid to use his big body. He played very well."

Cass, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, spent the past four years with Quinnipiac College, a Division I school, where he appeared in 79 games and had three goals and seven assists for 10 points. Cass graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in financial management.

"Bill is a very capable defenseman in his own zone and one that I expect to be making the first pass," said Ferras. "Bill has seen the intensity of playoff hockey and I am sure this will give him the confidence to step right in and make an impact come October."

Bill Cass is the sixth player signed by the Amarillo Gorillas for the 2004-2005 season joining fellow blue-liners Ryan Shannon, Mark DeSantis, Darren Curry, Tyler Butler and forward Derek Hahn.

The 2004-2005 season is fast approaching for the Amarillo Gorillas and fans shouldn't delay and purchase full or partial season tickets. A $50 deposit is required and for further information, please drop by the Amarillo Gorillas Corporate Offices at 1934 Civic Circle, just off of I-40 and Georgia, or by calling 242-7825.
