Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. â The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed forward Michel Beausoleil (bow-suh-lay), head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Beausoleil, a 5-10, 175-pound native of Montreal, Quebec, skated the last two seasons with the Port Huron Beacons of the United Hockey League. Last season, he recorded 86 points (37-49-86) and served 122 penalty minutes while playing in all 76 of his team's games. His goal, assist and point totals were good for second on the team in each category and his 86 points tied him for 10th in the UHL scoring race. Last season, Beausoleil produced an eight-game, seven-game and two six-game scoring streaks, as well as six multiple-goal games.
During the 2002-03 season, his first as a professional, Beausoleil recorded 51 points (22-29-51) and served 100 penalty minutes while playing in all 76 of his team's games. His goal, assist and point totals placed him second among rookies in the UHL. In 156 games as a professional, he has amassed 137 points (59-78-137) and served 226 penalty minutes.
Prior to entering the professional ranks, Beausoieil skated in parts of four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 133 games with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and Sherbrooke Beavers, he recorded 74 points (34-40-74) and served 93 penalty minutes.
"He's a scorer," said Sauter. "Signing this player begins to address an area that we struggled with last season. Scoring. I look for him to give us the offense we need. He is a great competitor and he certainly comes to play every game. I look forward to seeing him make an impact on our hockey club."
The addition of Beausoleil brings the number of players signed by the Blazers for the 2004-05 season to six. He joins goaltenders Boyd Ballard and Sean Connors as well as first-year players Ryan Haggarty, Joel Pullman and Scott Hosaluk.
The Blazers will begin play in the team's 13th season in the CHL in late October. The 60-game schedule will be released pending completion in early August.
