Gonzalez, Pacyna Named League's Top Rookies

DURHAM, NC - Brockton Rox OF Tony Gonzalez and New Jersey Jackals RHP Ryan Pacyna were selected by the ten league field managers and media as the 2007 Can-Am League Rookie Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, as announced by the league today.

Gonzalez is currently batting .297 with seven home runs, 35 RBI and 14 doubles for Brockton. He has scored 32 runs, collected 60 hits and stolen six bases. Tony was a two-year starter at the University of New Orleans. He then played at Biola University before transferring over to Crichton College. While with the Comets, Gonzalez was named to the 2007 TranSouth First Team All-Conference, won the Team Slugger Award for Highest Batting Average and was second in the Conference and third in the Region for Batting Average. The La Habra, CA resident in 2007 had a .393 batting average with 11 home runs, 41 RBI and had a slugging percentage of .685.

Pacyna has had a solid rookie season with the Jackals. The New Britain, CT resident has a 6-2 record with a 3.35 ERA in 29 appearances. He has 45 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings pitched with an opponents' batting average of .258. Pacyna played collegiately at Becker College. During his senior season, Ryan accumulated a record of 3-4 with an ERA of 5.28 in 46 innings pitched. He led the Hawks in 2007 in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts (31), appearances (9) and complete games (4).
