A sensational pitching performance by Quebec starting pitcher Michel Simard helped the Capitales to an easy win over Nashua. The win kept Quebec in the chase for the final playoff berth as the Pride now leads the Capitales by 1.5 games with three to play. Simard went the distance tonight allowing only one earned run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. The win improved Simard's record to 9-8 on the year. 3B Patrick Deschenes led the Capitales at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. SS Ivan Naccarata chipped in his third home run of the season for Quebec. For the Pride, 3B Jermy Acey and SS Austin Wasserman each had two hits on the evening.

North Shore 3, New Jersey 2

A RBI single by 1B Luis Lopez and a costly error by C Clay Kuklick led to two North Shore runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and helped the Spirit beat New Jersey. With the win by North Shore and the loss by Atlantic City, the Spirit clinched the second half title. Lopez was the leader for North Shore at the plate going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a big eighth inning RBI. Jamie Baker pitched a 1/3 of an inning for the Spirit in relief and notched his fourth victory of the year. North Shore closer Derek Drage pitched a scoreless ninth inning to collect his 13th save of the season.

Sussex 5, Worcester 3

The Sussex Skyhawks scored all five of their runs in the top of the fourth inning and would make it stick in beating the Worcester Tornadoes. 3B Brian Rios had a big night for the Skyhawks as he went 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI. Rios also contributed his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot in that big fourth inning. 2B Rob Gandolfo, DH Larry Bethea and C Tom Terrill each had two hits on the night as well for Sussex. Skyhawks starter Trey Stephens won his first game of the season going 6 2/3 innings allowing three runs, two earned, on 10 hits with three strikeouts. DH Josh Beauregard had a three hit night for Worcester.

New Haven County 8, Brockton 7

New Haven County rolled out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and would have to hold off a late charging Brockton rally to win by a run. New Haven County CF Ervin Alcantara and DH Jeremy Pickrel went a combined 4-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored and a RBI. Cutters 1B Chris Gaskin also homered and drove in three runs. Mike Joyce hurled 3 1/3 innings of relief for the Cutters giving up only a hit and a walk to pickup the victory. He is now 2-4 on the season. New Haven County closer Andy Weimer continues to have a solid season as he notched his 18th save. Rookie Player of the Year LF/RF Tony Gonzalez launched his eighth dinger of the year for the Rox.

Grays 12, Atlantic City 7

Atlantic City went out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning of play. However, the Grays would go on to score eight runs over the next three innings to take the lead for good and beat the Surf. Grays leadoff hitter Mike Pierre went 3-for-5 on the night with a run scored and three RBI. SS Charles Jeroloman and 1B Jose Velasquez each went 2-for-5 with both hitting home runs. Grays starter Elliott Shaw picked up his seventh win of the year despite allowing seven earned runs on only five hits with seven walks and three strikeouts. 3B Ed Montague led Atlantic City in the losing effort going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a run driven in.
