Madison, Wis. - Field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (13-8, 33-23) were defeated by the La Crosse Loggers (14-9, 33-24) by a final score of 16-6 in Friday's series finale at the Duck Pond. The Loggers out-hit the Mallards 18-12 and scored in all but one inning of the lopsided contest, an offensive outburst that allowed for La Crosse to split their key two-game set at Warner Park. Madison remains in second place in the South Division's second-half standings.

The Loggers raked early and often in the victory, plating a combined six runs over the opening two frames and following with at least one run scored in every inning but the road half of the fifth. A.J. Bogucki (North Carolina) received the losing decision on the mound after allowing five earned runs over just one inning of work in his eighth start of the summer. Madison attempted a comeback in scoring six runs between the seventh and ninth frames, but J.J. Gould's (Jacksonville) grounded-into-double-play with one out in the top of the ninth ceased Madison's offensive momentum.

Jason Goldstein (Illinois) turned in a spectacular night at the plate in Madison's losing effort, going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored to take home Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison 'Big Win' Player of the Night Honors for the Mallards. Other noteworthy performances from Friday included Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) going 1-for-5 to extend his season-high hit streak to eight consecutive games, as well as Scott Tyler (Ball State) producing a 1-for-3 batting line with a pair of runs batted and one walk to hoist his season on-base percentage to a .384 over 153 at-bats.

With the loss behind them, the Mallards will turn their attention toward the opener of a seven-day, six-game road swing against South Division competition, which will begin Saturday night at Kapco Park against the Lakeshore Chinooks. For notes and updates throughout Saturday's 6:35 p.m. affair, follow the Mallards on Twitter at @MadisonMallards or tune in to 100.5 FM ESPN Madison's comprehensive play-by-play coverage beginning at 6:15 p.m. CT.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Saturday, August 1 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Zimbrick Honda will also present a free kids clinic from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to first pitch.
