St. Cloud Rox News Release
Duluth, MN--- It didn't take long for the Rox to assert themselves offensively in their 10-4 victory over the Duluth Huskies on Friday night. Marcus Carson (Kentucky) lined the second pitch of the game into right center field and showed off his SEC speed as he led off the game with a triple for the Rox.
After Marcus Carson scored when Lee Miller (Davidson) reached on an error, John Sansone (Florida St.) doubled into left center field to continue the red-hot start as the Rox had runners on second and third with nobody out. Webb Bobo (SE Louisiana) followed an Athmann ground out with an RBI groundout of his own, as Miller scored to push the Rox lead to 2-0. Brandon Benson (Georgia College) added a timely 2-out single to plate Sansone, and the Rox took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the first.
The Rox held their 3-0 lead into the fourth inning, when Carson and Miller both doubled and scored in the inning to push the Rox advantage to five.
Zach Pop (Kentucky) got the start on the mound for the Rox and was brilliant through the first 5 innings of the game. Pop ran into trouble in the 6th though, when the Huskies began to mount a comeback. The Huskies would score four runs, three earned, before Erik Martinez (California) came in to stop the bleeding for the Rox as they escaped the 6th inning with a 5-4 lead.
With the crowd coming alive in the 7th, Liam Bedford (Doane College) silenced the Huskies faithful with a one out double that plated two. Bedford finished the game 3-5 from the plate with 3 RBI's, including his first homerun of the season, a solo shot to dead centerfield in the top of the 9th inning.
Holding a 7-4 lead in the 8th, Sansone tied Athmann atop the Rox lead for homeruns with his 4th of the season, a 2-run blast to left field to push the Rox lead up to 5.
Tonight's SC Times player of the game was Liam Bedford. Bedford was 3-5 with 3 RBI's and a solo HR. For more Rox coverage, please visit www.sctimes.com
