Kingfish Complete Sweep over Battle Creek
July 24, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Battle Creek, MI - In a game that was much more tightly contested than the night before, the Kingfish still found a way to defeat Battle Creek 6-4 and sweep the Bombers on the road.
Brendon Allen took the mound for the Kingfish. Like every appearance he has made since returning from his injury, Allen looked very sharp en route to victory. He worked 6.2 innings and gave up just 2 runs off of 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. David Meade relieved him and pitched two thirds of an inning, as did Ryan Orr. Both combined for shutout performances to take the Kingfish to the ninth with the lead. J.R. Holloway and Brett Shimanovsky were brought on for the final inning. While two runs ended up crossing the plate, Shimanovsky was able to record his fifth save of the season in six opportunities.
Offensively, the Kingfish were able to find success again. They employed the same strategy they used the night before, consisting of striking first and riding the momentum. Jeremy Vasquez started the scoring off with an RBI single in the first. While the Bombers retaliated to tie the game in the third, a three run fourth pushed the Kingfish ahead for good. Two more runs tacked on in the sixth sealed the deal for the Kingfish, who were able to hold on for the win.
Jeremy Vasquez finished 3-5 with 3 RBI and Mitch Gasbarro went 3-4. Those two helped pace the Kingfish offense, which combined for 19 runs in the series. Both teams will travel to Kenosha to play under the Simmons Field lights tomorrow night at 6:05.
