July 24, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI- The offense came alive for the Green Bay Bullfrogs, as they defeated the Lakeshore Chinooks 10-7 on Friday night at Joannes Stadium.
Green Bay scored double-digit runs for the seventh time this season, the first since July 10. The Bullfrogs pounded 13 hits, including three from Paul Jacobson.
The Bullfrogs improved their record to 34-22 overall and 12-9 in the second half.
Doug Kraeger connected on a two-run home run over the right-field Leinenkugel's Fan Deck in the top of the first to score Anthony Massicci, who led the game off with a single.
Green Bay came right back with three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Robb Paller reached on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball. Brian Celsi knocked in the first Bullfrogs run with an RBI single.
Following a base hit up the middle for Matthew De La Rosa, Paul Jacobson singled over Kraeger's head at first base. Celsi scored, and rightfielder Jack Benninghoff's throwing error allowed De La Rosa to score to give Green Bay a 3-2 advantage.
Lucas Raley tied the game with his Northwoods League-leading 12th home run to centerfield to lead off the third inning.
Parker Hamilton allowed three runs in two innings of work, but Luke Lind pitched a crucial four innings of long relief. Lind allowed just one hit and a walk with five strikeouts, as he improved his record to 2-1 on the season.
Green Bay grabbed the lead right back with three runs in the bottom of the third. With runners at second and third, Paul Jacobson hit a line drive off pitcher Kevin Long to score Danny Rosenbaum. Mason George reached on a run-scoring infield single as Matthew De La Rosa crossed the plate.
With Jack Strunc at first and Jacobson on third base, Strunc sprinted for second. When catcher Mark Kolozsvary threw down, Jacobson broke for home, and Eric Fasnacht's throw was off the mark as the Bullfrogs took a 6-3 lead.
Green Bay added to its advantage with a run in the fifth. Logan Taylor led off with a double, stole third and scored on a wild pitch to push the deficit to four.
The game remained 7-3 until the bottom of the seventh when the Bullfrogs rallied for three more. Strunc came through with a bases-loaded, two-RBI single, and Ty Blankmeyer recorded a run-scoring groundout to extend the Bullfrogs' lead to 10-3.
Jake Stolley pitched two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Chad Dullnig got the first two batters out in the ninth, but he walked two consecutive batters before two consecutive extra-base hits made it a 10-6 game.
Jack Mahan entered the game, and Kraeger hit a chopper over the head of Rosenbaum for a triple to score another run, but Benninghoff grounded out to shortstop to end the game.
The Bullfrogs will be on the road against the La Crosse Loggers on Saturday and Sunday before returning to Joannes Stadium on July 27.
