Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
As the number of days until training camp shrink, Winnipeg's roster continues to grow.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of catcher Travis Howell. There are now 24 players on the Winnipeg roster, split evenly between pitchers and position players.
Howell, 25, arrives following two seasons in the Mariners system. A .241 hitter with a solid .444 caught stealing percentage, he signed with Seattle out of NCAA Div. I Long Beach State and proceeded to earn post-season all-star honours as a rookie in the Northwest (A) League.
Training camp opens May 4 at Canwest Park.
FISH FOOD: After going hitless in five spring training at-bats with the Pirates, former Fish Brian Myrow began the season with Pittsburgh's Pacific Coast (AAA) League affiliate in Indianapolis. Through April 13 action, he was hitting .211 in five games.
