WINNIPEG - The American Association turned the page from the 2011 season to the 2012 campaign this past weekend and the Winnipeg Goldeyes added one last award to the trophy case from this past summer.
As selected by the AA's field managers and media personnel, the Goldeyes were named the league's organization of the year for the 2011 season.
"This award illustrates the respect the Goldeyes have in the American Association and it's a privilege to be given this award by the other 13 teams in the league," Goldeyes owner and CEO Sam Katz said. "It's speaks to the quality of staff we have, from the general manager to the bat boy, and the work they do to make the organization successful every season."
This marks the sixth time the Goldeyes have won this award in the past nine seasons. While in the Northern League, Winnipeg was named the organization of the year in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
"It's an honour to be selected by our peers for this award," Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier said. "It's evident that opposing teams coming to Shaw Park acknowledge the hard work by our staff and the support the Goldeyes receive from the best fans in independent baseball."
Other accolades from the 2011 season include the Goldeyes winning the AA's North Division with a record of 60-40, Rick Forney being named the league's manager of the year and second baseman Price Kendall claiming the loop's rookie of the year award.
Fans looking for season ticket and nine-game mini pack information for the 2012 season can call the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273).
