Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Game 1 - Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 13 Winnipeg Goldeyes 10
As has been the case for the better part of the past week, when one aspect of the Winnipeg Goldeyes game is cruising along, another part crashes, and crashes hard.
The Goldeyes hit double digits in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, but still lost 13-10 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in seven innings.
Winnipeg did have a chance to win the game with its last at bat. Kevin West came to the plate with the bases loaded, but he hit a soft groundball to first base to end the game.
After getting down 11-5 in the fifth inning, Winnipeg scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to cut Fargo's lead to just a single run. The scoring burst was highlighted by a Donzell McDonald three-run double.
Fargo tallied twice in the sixth inning to cement the win.
Juan Diaz and Kevin West hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning. It was Diaz's first of two home runs in the game.
Goldeyes starting pitcher Stephen Flake went three and a third innings, but took the loss after giving up eight runs.
Donnie Smith got the win for Fargo, while Casey Hoorelbeke picked up the save.
Game 2 - Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6 Winnipeg Goldeyes 5
The back half of Saturday night's doubleheader was just as close as the first half, but it also carried the same result.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes fell 6-5 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in seven innings.
It was an offensive struggle early on. Fargo took a 4-1 lead in the second inning before Winnipeg sprang for three runs to tie the game, which was highlighted by a two-run single by Kevin West.
Fargo went up 5-4 in the third and never looked back.
Goldeyes starting pitcher Zach Baldwin threw a complete game, but gets hit with the loss.
Matt Petrusek went five and two-thirds innings in a winning effort.
The Goldeyes are now five games behind the Joliet JackHammers for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northern League. Winnipeg's tragic number that will see them eliminated from playoff contention is two.
This final home series of the 2010 season concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Great seats are available by visiting any Ticketmaster location or by calling 780-3333.
