KC finishes sweep with 7-4 win

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Kansas City completed a four-game series sweep of the Rockford RiverHawks with a repeat power performance from the heart of its lineup.

Gabriel Martinez, Ray Sadler and Jim Fasano each homered on Sunday as the T-Bones beat the RiverHawks, 7-4, at Road Ranger Stadium.

KC hit 15 homers and outscored Rockford, 40-15, in the series. Martinez hit five home runs in the last three games, Sadler homered each of the four games and Fasano hit a home run in each of the last two games.

Jake Eigsti and Jono Brooks each homered for the RiverHawks, in front of a near-sellout crowd of 2,912.

The RiverHawks are 4 games behind Gary for the last Northern League playoff spot with seven to play. Joliet moved into third place with an 8-3 win Sunday at Gary. The RailCats' magic number to eliminate Rockford is three.

The T-Bones led from the first inning on. KC loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning. Fasano hit a sacrifice fly and Rockford starter Raymar Diaz threw a run-scoring wild pitch.

KC starter Andrew Cruse (11-5) scattered a run on four hits over five innings for the win. He struck out seven and walked one. Diaz (1-1) gave up five runs on five hits in seven innings.

The RiverHawks are off on Monday. They begin their final home series of the season, a three-game set against Winnipeg, at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. It's a Two-For Tuesday - tickets are available at two for the price of one.
