Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

ROSEMONT, IL - Thursday evening's game between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Chicago Dogs at Impact Field was suspended in the top of the ninth inning with Winnipeg leading by a score of 8-5 due to a fireworks show at a development adjacent to the ballpark.

The game will be completed when Chicago visits the Goldeyes at Shaw Park August 31st to September 2nd.

Winnipeg opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Kyle Martin doubled off the wall in left-centre field to bring home Tyler Hill.

The Dogs moved in front 2-1 in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by Brennan Metzger that scored Johnny Adams and T.J. Bennett.

In the top of the third inning, Martin once again doubled off the fence in left-centre field - this time driving in Max Murphy - to tie the game at 2-2. It was Martin's 90th run batted in of the year, equalling the club's single season record set by Juan Diaz in 2009. Winnipeg took the lead one batter later when Raul Navarro brought Martin home with a single to centre field. Navarro himself scored on Kevin Lachance's double to left field that gave the Goldeyes a 4-2 lead.

Chicago would pull even in their half of the third. First Ryan Lidge doubled off the wall in right field to plate Danny Mars, then Lidge himself was driven in by Bennett's single up the middle, making the score 4-4.

The Dogs took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Mars lifted a sacrifice fly to centre field that allowed Metzger to come home.

The Goldeyes crossed the plate four times in the top of the sixth. Lachance scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 5-5. Wes Darvill doubled to right-centre field scoring Deon Stafford and Austin Rei to give Winnipeg a 7-5 lead, and Murphy knocked Darvill in with a single to right field to give the Goldeyes a three-run advantage.

Winnipeg now travels to Geneva, Illinois where they will meet the Kane County Cougars in a three-game weekend series that gets underway at Northwestern Medicine Field Friday at 6:35 p.m. Eduard Reyes (6-7, 6.80) will start for the Goldeyes, while Kane County counters with Josh Tols (3-5, 3.95). All the action can be heard locally on CJNU 93.7 FM and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca.
