Golden Eagles Earn #200 For Mayotte behind 10-0 Victory

Glens Falls, NY - Before a frenzied crowd at historic East Field Thursday evening, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles defeated the Watertown Wizards 10-0 to cap a two-game sweep of the team as Coach John Mayotte earned his 200th career victory as a manger with the Golden Eagles. Securing the symbolic win for the Glens Falls were early runs led by second baseman Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) and strong pitching performance from starter Max MacNabb (San Diego).

Clayton Brown (Tacoma CC) would initiate the run scoring for the Golden Eagles with a single and a stolen base to lead off the game. Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) would reach on a walk to be followed by a David Olson (Tacoma CC) single to load the bases. A Mike Kindel (Kansas St) RBI walk would score Brown and a wild pitch from Wizards starter Rob Rogers (Keystone) with catcher Kevin Alexander (Dallas Baptist) at the plate would score Claudio from third. The two first inning runs would be all the Golden Eagles needed as the team would go on to score eight more runs.

Watertown succeeded in placing men on base with five hits and five walks, but the Wizards would ultimately strand ten runners on the bases. The team threatened in the third as catcher A.J. Capone (Saint Rose) walked and reached third on a double by Jake McGuiggan (Harvard) but failed to drive in Capone. The Wizards also placed runners on third in the third and fifth innings but were unable to score off Golden Eagles starter MacNabb.

Starring for Glens Falls offensively was Ruchim who slammed two homeruns doubling his season output while picking up three RBI. Olson and Kindel each drove in a pair of runs while Brown and Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine) each added a single RBI each. Multi-hit games came courtesy of Ruchim, Olson, Alexander, and Mike Tirri (Albany).

Leading the Wizards offensively was Alex Maldonado (Holy Cross) who singled three times while stealing a base. Capone drew two walks to reach base for Watertown. Reaching base three times on two walks and a double was McGuiggan in the losing effort for the Wizards.

Dominating on the rubber for Glens Falls was MacNabb who pitched five strong innings striking out eight batters while allowing four hits to earn the win (2-2). Pitching well out of the bullpen were Antwan Brown (Santa Fe) and Jordan Keysor (Skidmore) who combined to throw four scoreless innings of one hit baseball.

Taking the loss for Watertown was starter Rogers (1-4) who lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed eight earned runs but struck out five. For the remaining 3 2/3 innings, Ricky Christopher (Niagara County CC) and Scott Whitehead (Canisius) allowed only two runs on three hits in a bright spot for the Wizards.

The Golden Eagles, mentioned in this past week's national rankings, improve to 17-11 on the season while the Wizards drop to 11-18.

Coach John Mayotte, the only manger Golden Eagles have ever had, now stands at 200-120 (.625) within his eighth season in Glens Falls.

Friday and Saturday, the Golden Eagles are on the road at Newark for a two-game road stand before the PGCBL All Star Game in Elmira on Monday. The Wizards will travel to face Albany on Friday followed by two more road games leading up to the All Star Game.
