Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced Saturday that veteran goalkeeper and Impact record holder Greg Sutton will join the team on Monday, on a loan from the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer, for the remainder of the 2011 season. The loan is subject to player clearing MLS waivers.

"With both Bill Gaudette and Canadian U17 National team goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau out for an extended period of time due to injuries, we were in a situation where we needed a short term solution for this season," said sporting director Nick De Santis. "We did not want to put ourselves in a delicate situation should something happen to Evan Bush. We still feel that this is an important year and we are not looking past this season right now. We felt the opportunity was right for Greg and we are happy to welcome him back with the club."

Sutton returns to the Impact after playing six seasons in Montreal between 2001 and 2006, where he became the team all-time goalkeeping record holder for career shutouts (67), wins (72), games played (132) and minutes played (12,309). He was the league Goalkeeper of the Year in four straight years, from 2003 to 2006 and won the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy as the Impact Team MVP in 2003. He was also named League MVP and the Impact Defensive Player of the Year in 2004, after helping the team win the second championship in club history.

Originally from Hamilton in Ontario, Sutton was drafted in the second round of the 1999 MLS College Draft by the Chicago Fire. He also played for the New York/New Jersey MetroStars and Cincinnati Riverhawks (A-League) before signing with the Impact in 2011. He resumed his career in MLS in 2007, playing 34 games in three seasons with Toronto FC before joining the New York Red Bulls on April 27, 2010.

In 2011, Sutton has started 10 games with New York, registering three wins, two losses and five ties. He has played 900 minutes, recording 30 saves and two shutouts.

Sutton has played 50 career MLS games, including 48 starts, and 4,432 minutes, and has a record of 14 wins, 21 losses and 15 ties. He has recorded 11 shutouts and 208 saves.

He has represented Canada 16 times with the national team, playing in the 2005, 2007 and 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He made his debut on January 18, 2004, in a 1-0 shutout win against Barbados.
