Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - Close to fifty players hit the ice at Westman Communications Group Place Friday as the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings opened up Main Camp.

Following back to back on ice sessions in the morning, the two teams faced off at night in the first of three scrimmage games to be played over the course of the next two days.

Team White roared back from 3-0 and 5-3 deficits - scoring six unanswered goals on their way to a 9-6 win over Team Gold.

17-year old Ty Lewis of Brandon led the winners with three goals, the first two pulling Team White into a 5-5 tie midway through the contest.

A former third round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Lewis spent most of the 2014-15 season with the AAA Midget Wheat Kings, scoring ten goals and 21 points in thirteen games. He also played in five games for the WHL club, including three in post season play.

15-year old defenceman Sean Comrie, who was Brandon's second choice and 44th overall selection in this year's draft, added two goals for the winners while singles came off the sticks of veterans Braylon Shmyr, Reid Duke and Colton Waltz as well as prospect Caiden Daley, who was the Wheat Kings first round bantam pick in 2015.

Veterans Mark Taraschuk, Tim McGauley, Tyler Coulter and Tanner Kaspick along with 16-year old James McIsaac and 15-year old Rylan Hoffman scored in a losing cause for the Gold Team that will be hoping to get back on even terms Saturday morning when the two teams square off again at 9:30.

Day two of Main Camp will conclude Saturday night with another scrimmage, to be followed by the annual Canad Inns Intrasquad game Sunday afternoon.

Brandon's first of four pre-season games will be played Friday night against Regina.

The Wheat Kings 2015 Home Opener is set for Friday, September 25th against Swift Current.

Tickets to the Home Opener will go on sale Tuesday morning at 10am. Meanwhile for those looking for the most affordable season tickets in the WHL, be sure to visit the Wheat Kings office or call (204) 726-3535.
