April 1, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, GA - The Gwinnett Gladiators fell to the Greenville Road Warriors, 4-1 in their final home game for the 2010-2011 season Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnet Center in front of 6,256 fans.
An unassisted goal from Shane Harper put the Road Warriors (45-22-4) on the board first at the 6:13 mark in the opening period.
Just 5:33 later Sean Berkstresser scored a shorthanded fluke goal when the puck ricocheted off the end boards, took a strange bounce in the air and went off the shoulder of goaltender Garrett Zemlak and in to give Greenville the 2-0 advantage.
At the end of one the Glads (30-33-8) remained behind, despite outshooting the Road Warriors 13-7.
Greenville added two back-to-back goals twenty seconds apart in the second period to increase their lead to four. The first tally came at the 6:20 mark off the stick of Andrew Rowe. The Road Warriors struck again to pad their lead with an unassisted goal from Grant Farrell.
Zemlak made 12 stops on 16 shots before being relieved by Chris Carrozzi after the fourth Greenville tally.
With just 16 seconds left in the period Michael Forney potted a rebound for his 21st goal of the season to make it 4-1 after two. Matt Francis added the assist.
Neither team found the back of the net in the third, and the game ended in a 4-1 Greenville win. Carrozzi finished the night with 14 saves on as many shots.
Gwinnett will play its final game of the 2010-2011 season tomorrow night in Greenville at 7:05 pm.
