Swanson Wins ECHL Sportsmanship Award

The ECHL on Friday announced that Brian Swanson of the Alaska Aces is the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award for 2010-11 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches. The award is presented annually to the player who is judged to have exhibited the best sportsmanship combined with a high standard of playing ability.

Swanson leads Alaska with 45 assists while his 24 goals and 69 points are both second on the club. The 35 year old returned to North America this season after playing the previous six seasons in the DEL in Germany. He has 70 games of National Hockey League experience with Edmonton and Atlanta, scoring 17 points (4g-13) from 2000-04. A fifth round selection (115th overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Swanson has scored 226 points (84g-142a) in 257 career American Hockey League games with Hartford, Hamilton and Chicago.
