Gladiators Fall to IceGators, 4-2

Alex Materukhin's second goal of the night half way through the third period gave the Louisiana IceGators their first lead of the game as they held on to beat the Gwinnett Gladiators, 4-2 on Wednesday night at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The Gladiators opened up a 1-0 lead on a deflection by Brett Engelhardt just 2:43 into the first period. Lane Manson's slap shot from the left wing point was headed wide before Engelhardt tipped the puck past Louisiana netminder Kyle Kettles for his 5th goal of the season. Kris Goodjohn also picked up an assist on the goal.

Louisiana tied the game up moments after a Gladiators penalty expired as Mike Omicioli took a fluttering centering feed from Mark Rooneem in the slot. Omicioli, on the virtual breakaway, beat Gladiators netminder T.J. Aceti for the tally. Wes Mason also chipped in an assist on the goal.

Cam Brown capitalized on a Gladiators power play half way through the second period to give the Gladiators a 2-1 lead. Brad Schell and Jeff Campbell each picked up an assist on Brown's 6th goal of the season at 10:04 of the second period.

Alex Materukhin tied the game at two on a virtual breakaway as the puck squirted past the Gladiators defense to spring the IceGators' forward. Pascal Pelletier picked up an assist on the goal at 15:11 of the second period.

Louisiana took its first lead of the night on Materukhin's second goal of the night as he capitalized on a Gladiators poor clearing attempt at 10:28 of the third period as he was able to put his rebound past Aceti. David Barauk hooked up with Pelletier on the play to pick up the assists on the goal.

Wes Mason put the game away for the IceGators on the power play at with just 1:24 remaining in the third period as he shoveled the puck past Aceti off a feed from Randy Dagenais from the right wing point. Chris Thompson added an assist on the power play goal for the IceGators.

T.J. Aceti made 32 saves for the Gladiators who went 1-for-3 on the power play but fall to 5-3-3 on the season with the loss.

The Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators continue their second season at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday, November 19th at 7:35 p.m. as they host the Charlotte Checkers.
