Gladiators Reading Program Returns for 6th Season

August 14, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators school reading program "Hat Trick for Reading" will be split among two game dates for the fourth consecutive season to accommodate the increased participation in the program. The Gladiators Elementary School "Hat Trick for Reading" program is sponsored by Dr. Bill Williams & Suwanee Dental Care.

"We had such an overwhelming response to the program in the past we had to keep the additional game in order to accommodate all the schools that want to participate," said Gladiators director of Community Relations Director Jim Hall. "It's a really simple program for schools to implement and gives the kids a great reward. We were really pleased last season when more than 125 schools and school groups participated."

The Gladiators "Hat Trick for Reading" Program is designed to help stimulate interest in reading among elementary school aged children in Gwinnett County and surrounding areas, and the program is open to all local Public and Private Elementary Schools, as well as Home School Groups.

Each participating student will be given a Gladiators bookmark and asked to read at least three books during a specified time period determined by the participating school. The student will then submit to their teacher "proof" that the books had been read - either through verbal, written or parent approved reports. Students who "score a Reading Hat Trick" and complete the program will receive a voucher for two (2) complimentary Upper End Zone seats.

Gwinnett County Public School kids who participate in the program will receive tickets for the Gladiators game against Charlotte on Friday November 14th, while all other counties, private, and home school groups will be able to redeem their certificates for the Gladiators game on Saturday, November 15th against South Carolina.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.

The Gwinnett Gladiators open their sixth season as a proud member of the ECHL in October of 2008 - season ticket packages are on sale now.
