Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, CALIF. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Jamie Coghlan and right wing Derek Patrosso for the 2008-09 season. Both players enter their first professional season.
"Both of these players are going to add size and depth to our roster for the 2008-2009 season," Falcons head coach and general manager Matt Thomas said.
Coghlan, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound blueliner, comes to the Falcons after a three-year career at Mercyhurst College where he scored nine points and accumulated 76 penalty minutes in 81 games. Prior to enrolling at Mercyhurst, the 24-year-old played two years with the St. Michael's Buzzers in the OPJHL, where he served as team captain and was a two-time OPJHL South Defenseman of the Year.
"Jamie is a big, strong defenseman who can clear the front of the net, and comes highly touted as a solid two-way defenseman," Thomas said.
Patrosso, a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder, spent the previous four seasons at Colorado College, appearing in 121 games, and tallying 17 goals while adding 24 assists. The 23-year-old also played two years in the USHL with Sioux Falls and Danville before enrolling at Colorado College, registering 38 goals and 53 assists in 114 games.
"Derek is a big power forward with soft hands around the net," Thomas said. "Everyone we talk to about Derek feels that he will be a big scorer in the pro game. We look forward to him being in our line-up."
Opening Night 2008 at Selland Arena is set for Friday, October 24, when the Falcons host their arch-rivals, the Bakersfield Condors, at 7:35 p.m. Season Ticket packages start at just $432, and are now available by calling the Falcons at (559) 485-7825.
