Gladiators Position Breakdown: Quarterbacks
February 12, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Gladiators begin week two of training camp and Head Coach Danton Barto breaks down the Quarterbacks position as Shaun King, Andy Hall and Brian Jones all fight for the starting job.
Shaun King (6"1, 215, Tulane) who begins his first season in the Arena Football League, is adapting quickly to the game, but was forced to watch for the first couple days of practice due to an ankle sprain on the first day of camp. King has played in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals.
"Shaun has started to understand the speed and reads of the game. His early ankle sprain has slowed down his progression," said Coach Barto. "But I am excited to see his progression this week".
Brian Jones (6"2, 212, Toledo) is entering his first full season in the AFL (he was with the Gladiators in training camp in 2006), but played under Head Coach Danton Barto with the Memphis Xplorers of the af2 in 2005 and 2006.
"Brian has been the one quarterback that has shown that he can lead this team consistently. He has been a very steady and has only thrown one interception in camp. He has shown why he won a championship in af2 because he puts the ball in play and doesn't throw interceptions" said Coach Barto.
Andy Hall (6"1, 218, Delaware) was a 6th round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004 and spent 2005 on the practice squad also enters his first season in the AFL. He is steadily developing the skills needed to play Arena football.
"Andy has progressed tremendously since his first practice" remarked Coach Barto. "He still needs work on making his reads faster, but I hoe he continues to make as much progress this upcoming week as the first week"
Training camp is open to the public and practices are held outside the Orleans Arena. The first practice begins at 9:30-11:30 and the second practice goes from 2:45-4:45pm.
The Gladiators will kickoff their 5th season on the road March 4th against the Austin Wranglers at 1pm. Season tickets for the 2007 Las Vegas Gladiators home schedule are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Las Vegas Gladiators office at 702-731-4977.
