DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators (7-14-1-0) return home for one more game before the ECHL's Christmas break, taking on the Orlando Solar Bears (14-11-3-0). While the Gladiators did not pick up the two wins in Florida this past week, they received impressive efforts from forwards Will MacDonald (1 goal, 11 shots), J.P. Labardo (3 goals, 5 shots), and Casey Pierro-Zabotel (3 assists), and defenseman Jordon Southorn (1g, 2a).
This will be Gwinnett's second game this season against Orlando. The only other time the two have played each other was on October 29th, a 5-4 overtime win for the Gladiators, fueled by Jordon Southorn's three point night, including the game-winning goal in OT.
Glads Notes:
Glads to See Ya: The Gladiators' two newest acquisitions have provided a spark to the team's offense this past week. Jordon Southorn has tallied a goal and two assists in his last two games, and Travis Ouellette picked up two assists himself on Friday.
No Shot: The Glads are the only team in the league to not have reached the shootout this season; the Alaska Aces were the only other team to have not reached the extra session until losing in the shootout to Bakersfield last night. The Gladiators are 2-1 in OT.
Gladiators Ahoy: Four players currently on the Gladiators roster have been assigned from their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates- James Melindy, Nathan Burns, Mike Lee, and Jordon Southorn - and six more - Joel Hanley (POR), Dan O'Donoghue (POR), Greg Carey (POR), Dyson Stevenson (POR), Bretton Stamler (HFD), and Casey Pierro-Zabotel (NOR) - have been spent time in the AHL this year.
Milestones: Eric Springer is two games away from his 100th regular season professional game ... Geoff Paukovich played in his 300th ECHL game on Friday and is four assists from his 100th pro assist.
Streaks: Jordon Southorn has three goals and five assists in his seven games with the Glads this year ... J.P. Labardo has three goals in his last two games ... Defenseman Tristin Llewellyn has two goals and three assists in his last six games ... Casey Pierro-Zabotel has a goal and four assists during his four-game point streak.
