
Gladiators Fall in OT to Mississippi, 3-2

Despite out shooting the Sea Wolves, 37-30, Jay Leagault tallied the game winner 3:27 into overtime for the Mississippi as they knocked off the Gladiators 3-2 in overtime at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum to tie the series at one game apiece. The Gladiators jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal 2:56 into the first period off the stick of Rick Emmett. Brad Schell tapped the puck along to Rick Emmett at the left wing point where the forward ripped a slapshot past Mississippi netminder Phil Sauve for the tally. Cam Brown also picked up an assist on the tally.
Mick Greenough tied the game at a goal apiece at 14:25 of the first period deflecting Jeff Hutchins' shot from the right wing point past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields for the goal. Anthony Battaglia also picked up an assist on the goal.
Chris Durno's first goal of the post season put the Gladiators back on top of the Sea Wolves 2-1 late in the second period on the power play. Joe Bourne flipped the puck into the slot where Durno ripped it home past Sauve. Rick Emmett also picked up an assist on the power play goal at 18:47 of the second period keeping the puck in the zone to keep the play alive.
Mississippi tied the game up at two just 33 seconds into the third period with a power play goal by Kerry Ellis-Toddington. Taking a pass from Jay Legault in the slot, Ellis-Toddington snapped a shot past Fields for the goal. Louis Dumont picked up a helper on the goal for the Sea Wolves.
Phil Legault ended the contest in overtime with a backhand shot that beat Gladiators netminder Sean Fields over the shoulder 3:27 into the overtime to tie the series at a game apiece. Jeff Hutchins and Austin Miller added the assists on the game-winning goal.
Sean Fields finished with 27 saves for the Gladiators in the loss as all the goals scored in regulation came on the power play. The series shifts back to the Arena at Gwinnett Center for Game #3 of the series beginning at 7:35 p.m. The first 1,500 fans will receive a 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs "White Out" tee shirt courtesy of Kroger at the game. Fans are also encouraged to bring a box of Mac-N-Cheese to the game to use as a noisemaker and then drop it into collection boxes to benefit local area food banks and the Salvation Army.
