DULUTH, GA - Gwinnett scored three power play goals as they downed the Lynx 6-2 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center on Thanksgiving Night. Scott Thauwald and Brian Ihnacak scored for the Lynx.
Jordan Fox put Gwinnett up a little over three minutes in with a shot from the right wing wall, giving the Gladiators a 1-0 lead. Then, Gwinnett took advantage of their first power play when Bryan Esner pointed a shot from the bottom of the right wing circle beating Lynx goaltender Riku Helenius to make it 2-0. The Lynx took advantage of some momentum after killing off a Gwinnett 5 on 3. Joel Hanson fed Thauwald to put Augusta on the board and cut the lead to one. However, another power play goal by Gwinnett padded the lead back to two as Matt Siddall tipped a point shot from defenseman Josh Engle and after one period, it was Gwinnett 3 and Augusta 1
The Gladiators increased their lead to 4-1 when Dirk Southern fired a shot from the high slot beating Helenius. On the ensuing face-off, Dan Sullivan took advantage of a breakaway to make it 5-1 Gwinnett. The goals came just 11 seconds apart. Brian Ihnacak answered a little over a minute later when he beat Josh Johnson for his first pro goal in North America. Scott Thauwald would get a penalty shot with a couple of minutes left in the period but was denied by Johnson and Gwinnett led 5-2 after two periods.
Brad Schell blasted a one timer from the right wing side to finish off the scoring and Gwinnett went on for the 6-2 victory. The Lynx were out shot 42-22. Augusta went 0 for 8 on the power play while Gwinnett finished 3 for 8. BJ Crum got the best of Matt Siddall in a third period fight.
The next home game for the Lynx is on Saturday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Charlotte Checkers. Come celebrate Louie the Lynx's birthday with local mascots and $10 seats anywhere in the arena. Also, the Lynx are holding their annual Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals for donation to kids throughout the CSRA.
