Steve Slonina's second period hat trick led the Gwinnett Gladiators over the Augusta Lynx 5-3 in the regular season finale on Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

A Lynx giveaway a the side of their own net just 2:06 into the opening frame allowed Brian Teixeira to give the Gladiators a 1-0 lead, as he poked the loose puck into a gaping Lynx net.

Augusta hung tough in the period, weathering four Gladiator power plays. On the fourth penalty kill for the Lynx the team found offense from defense, scoring twice in 35 seconds to grab the lead. Mike Erickson started the scoring with an unassisted goal at 18:16 followed by Joe Pereira's marker at 18:51 from Sean Stefanski on a two-on-one break for a 2-1 advantage through 20 minutes of play.

Slonina would start the second period by scoring twice on the power play and then added a regular strength goal for a natural hat trick. His first marker came just 48 seconds into the period, followed by his second at 4:14 for a 4-2 Gwinnett lead. Slaton recorded his second straight goal at 6:27, with Jeff Dwyer following up with a two-on-one tally making it 5-2 Gwinnett just 8:40 into the period.

Augusta would pull back within two goals as they managed a power play goal from Anthony Battaglia at 9:09 to make it 5-3, with Sam Ftorek and Chris Leinweber picking up the helpers.

Despite a rough and tumble third period, there would be no further scoring in the game. Augusta finished 1-for-4 on the power play while Gwinnett ended the night at 2-for-9.
