Nailers to Face Royals in Round One

DAYTON, OH - The North Division title literally came down to the final period of 2006 with the Toledo Storm trailing the Chiefs 2-1 to start the Third and the Nailers leading 4-2 in Dayton. The Nailers needed a Storm regulation loss and a win in Dayton to claim the title for the second time in three years.

In the first period Dayton's Van Hoof got the Bombers on the board on a power play goal. The Nailers came roaring back with Sean Collins picking up his 26th goal of the year tying the game at 1. Later Curtiss Patrick gave the Nailers a 2-1 lead at 4:35. Dayton would tie the game at 2 on a short handed goal by Legue at 8:09

In the second period Mike Doyle gave the Nailers the lead for the second time in the game at 1:52. The Nailers added to their lead at 11:55 with Tim Verbeek beating the Bombers goaltender to make it 4-2.

In the third period Dayton pulled with one when the Nailers turned the puck over in their own zone and the Bombers were able to beat Andy Franck. In Johnstown at about the same time the Storm tied the game at 2-2. The Nailers would hold on for the 4-3 win. In Johnstown the Chiefs and Storm would go to over time.

With the Storm gaining a point they have won the North sending the Nailers off to face the Reading Royals in the first round. The Nailers will head to Reading for Game one on Friday before returning home on Sunday afternoon for game 2.
