Titans finish regular season with 2-1 win over Royals

TRENTON, NJ - In Trenton's final tune-up before the Kelly Cup playoffs, Scott Bertoli returned from his assignment with the Norfolk Admirals to pick up the game-winning goal for the Titans in a 2-1 victory over the Reading Royals at the Sovereign Bank Arena.

The 5,706 fans in attendance saw Jim Henkel spring Bertoli into the Royals' zone with a home-run pass from Trenton's blueline. Bertoli fired a wrister that beat Cody Rudkowsky to the glove side for the go-ahead goal with 6:59 left in regulation.

The puck drop for the Titans' regular season finale was delayed for an hour to due a hole in the ice in the neutral zone. Once underway with the contest, Trenton and Reading skated through a scoreless first period.

Just under two minutes into the second frame, the Titans went up 1-0 as Vince Williams intercepted an errant pass at center ice and fed Henkel behind the defense for his team-leading 22nd goal of the season.

Kevin Saurette tied the score 1-1 at 13:15 of the middle period with his first professional goal.

Rejean Beauchemin returned to his stellar form making 38 saves to register his ninth win of the year.

The Titans were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, but 0-for-3 on the man advantage.
