August 25, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have re-signed defenseman Joe Bourne and have agreed to terms with defenseman David McCulloch for the 2004-05 season.
"Joe is a smart, âstay-at-home' solid defenseman," said Gladiators Head Coach Jeff Pyle. "He knows our systems and what is needed to get the job done."
Bourne returns to the Gladiators following his rookie season in Gwinnett where the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native tallied 6 goals and 15 assists for 20 points in 68 games last season.
"It was a lot of fun last year," said Gladiators defenseman Joe Bourne. "There are a lot of guys coming back and we've got some expectations after last season but I think we can be better this year than we were last year."
The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman chipped in three assists during the Kelly Cup Playoffs to help the Gladiators to the ECHL's Central Division Championship last year.
McCulloch becomes the second player signed this season by the Gladiators out of Harvard University joining forward Robert Fried, who signed with Gwinnett on July 28th.
The Lacombe, Alberta, native ranks fourth all time with 248 penalty minutes in that category for Harvard. The 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman recorded a goal and 3 assists for the Crimson in his senior season while helping Harvard to the ECAC tournament title in his senior season and the school's third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
With the addition of Bourne and McCulloch, the Gladiators have inked four defenseman for the 2004-05 season.
The Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators begin their second season on the road before hosting in-state rival Augusta on Friday, October 29th at 7:35 p.m. at home. In addition to having a ticket package for everyone, the Gladiators also offer group outings, suites and birthday parties.
