Gators get Omicioli
August 25, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Todd Gordon today announced the signing of center Mike Omicioli to a standard ECHL contract for the 2004-05 season.
A 26 year-old native of West Warwick, RI, Omicioli has played four full seasons of professional hockey. The 5'5" center has seen playing time in the AHL, ECHL and in Europe. His last two seasons were spent in Italy playing for Bolzano HC. Last year Omicioli had a better than two point per game average, scoring 65 points in 30 regular season games (19-46-65).
"Mike Omicioli brings a lot to the table offensively and we expect him to be a big part of our power play," said Gordon. "Even though Mike is only 5'5", he plays like he is 6'2". I expect him to be an offensive leader on the ice and a team leader in the locker room."
Despite his 165 pound frame, Omicioli has proven he can be a point per game player. In 1998-99 he was named to the All Hockey East 2nd team squad after scoring 50 points (19-31-50) in 38 games for the Friars. In his first pro season of 1999-00, despite splitting time between the Hampton Roads Admirals and Portland of the AHL, Omicioli scored a total of 64 in 53 games (20-44-64). In 2001-02, Omicioli scored 73 points while playing for the Roanoake Express and Columbus Cottonmouths.
Season Ticket, Flex Plans, and IcePack ticket vouchers are on sale now for the IceGators 10th anniversary season. For more information call the IceGators office at (337) 234-4423.
