GJ Splits Series with Helena

Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

The Grand Junction Rockies were limited to a season-low two hits in a 5-0 loss to the Helena Brewers Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field.

A Grant Lavigne double and Hunter Stovall single were the lone Rockies hits as they were shutout for the third time in 2018, the first time at home.

Justin Bullock stifled Grand Junction hitters for six innings, in earning his first win of the season, but Ryan Feltner matched him zero-for-zero as he allowed one hit and struck out four in three innings, but the Brewers took the lead once he left the game.

Jesus Lujano started the fourth inning with a walk, and after a David Fry single they both scored on Bryan Torres' bloop double down the left field line. Torres scored the inning's third run when Mike Alescio was caught stealing second, but he kept a rundown alive long enough for Torres to cross the plate.

Regan Todd tossed two scoreless innings after Supple, but Alescio hit a 2-run homer off Colton Harlow in the eighth.

Chad Whitmer followed Bullock by facing the minimum in the seventh and eighth innings, while Michael Mediavilla pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the Brewers a split of the 4-game set at Suplizio Field.

The loss drops the Rockies to 10-6 in the second half, 30-24 overall as their lead over Ogden in the South Division drops to just one game.

Monday night, the Rockies will begin a 3-game series against the Missoula Osprey. This first pitch from Suplizio Field will be at 6:40 with Ryan Rolison on the mound.
