Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) - On a night when Breast Cancer Awareness was the focus and the Knights raised $11,656 for the Levine Cancer Institute Project Pink, Hector Gimenez came up clutch again. This time, he did so in front of 10,891 fans - the highest attended game of the season.

With two-outs in the eighth-inning, Gimenez hit the game-winning home run - a three-run blast, and the Charlotte Knights continued their week-long theme of late-inning heroics with a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Bisons on Pink Knights at Knights Stadium on Saturday. It was the Knights' third come-from-behind win of the homestand. Gimenez, had the game-winning hit on Friday night in the bottom of the 10th inning against Toledo.

Dylan Axelrod (2-1, 0.87) made his first start since coming back from a stint with the Chicago White Sox and pitched well. He went six innings and the only run he allowed was unearned. He gave up four hits and struck out nine, which tied his season high from his first start of the season.

Dan Johnson got the Knights (19-17) on the scoreboard first with a towering home run in the first inning. It was Johnson's seventh of the season.

In the second, Josh Phegley doubled to lead off the inning and with two outs Tyler Kuhn doubled him home for a 2-0 lead.

Buffalo got on the board in the third to cut the lead in half. Fred Lewis reached on an error to lead off the inning and Vinny Rottino, who came down from the New York Mets earlier in the day, immediately doubled to bring him home. After a walk, Axelrod retired the next three batters, two by strikeout, to avoid further damage.

The big blow for Buffalo was struck off the bat of Valentino Pascucci in the seventh inning after Axelrod came out of the game. Pascucci hit a three-run home run after two two-out walks in the inning to put the Bisons up 4-2.

Anthony Carter (2-1, 2.57) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win. Reliever Brian Bruney struck out two out of the three batters he faced in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
