THRU AND THRUWAY: The Rochester Red Wings today play the 2nd game of their 4-game series at Syracuse (Nationals), continuing their 8-game road trip that started by losing 3 of 4 in Pawtucket (Red Sox). Following 3 more games in Mars City, the Wings return to Frontier Field Tuesday for an 8-game homestand that features Louisville (Reds) and Gwinnett (Braves).
a A pair of upcoming Red Wings games will be simulcast live on MLB Network to a national audience: Monday at Syracuse at 12:00 noon and May 22 vs. Gwinnett at 11:05 a.m.
a The Red Wings are nearing the end of a stretch of playing their first 37 games against International League North Division opponents. Rochester on Tuesday plays outside of its division for the first time. The Wings will play 40 consecutive games against interdivision foes through June 25 before returning to North Division competition at Lehigh Valley (Phillies) June 26-29.
BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 25 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees use the downtown ballpark as a temporary home while PNC Field in Moosic, PA undergoes a season-long renovation. Tonight in Rochester for the Yankees-Durham Bulls (Rays) game:

ROSTER NEWS: Danny Valencia today joins the Red Wings after being optioned from Minnesota Wednesday night. The third baseman, who will wear No. 16, spent parts of the 2010 and 2011 seasons with the Red Wings. He hit .190 with 5 doubles, one homer, 11 RBI in 27 games with the Twins prior to his demotion. The 27-year-old was also hitless in his last 25 at-bats. His last hit was an 8th-inning single off LaTroy Hawkins April 30 against the Angels at Target Field.
GET RID OF THE SKID: The Red Wings have lost 3 in a row and 4 of their last 5, a stretch that follows a season-high 4-game winning streak. The Wings have also lost 12 of their last 17 games, a stretch that began with a season-worst 8-game losing streak April 25-May 2. Rochester is 9-18 since starting the season 5-2.
a The Wings have lost at least 3 in a row on 3 occasions, including a 4-game skid April 12-15.
