Gilliam Named MVP In All-Star Game

Pittsburgh, PA. Armon Gilliam, the Pittsburgh Xplosion's starting center was named MVP of the 2006 ABA All Star Game after scoring 29 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to lead the East team to a thrilling 129-127 victory over the West squad. Coleco Buie, a starting guard for the Xplosion, scored 7 points. The game was played at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida., home of the ABA's Florida Pit Bulls.

Gilliam, nicknamed "The Hammer," is averaging 22 points and 9 rebounds per game in his first season with the Xplosion and the ABA after starring in the NBA for 13 years. Buie is averaging 22 points per game and set an Xplosion team record earlier this season by socring 50 points in one game.

The Xplosion (16-10) continue their drive for the ABA playoffs Tuesday, Feb 14 when they face the Indiana Alley Cats (23-2) at Mellon Arena at 7pm. Indiana has the best record in the ABA and two ABA All Stars, Chandler Thompson and Shawn Fountain. This is a "must-win" game for the Xplosion which holds second place in the ABA's Freddie Lewis Division, trailing only Indiana.
