
Gillaspie Walks off in Nailbiter

KANSAS CITY, KAN. - The Kansas City Monarchs won on a walk-off against the Lake Country DockHounds 3-2 Thursday evening.
Lake Country would start with Carson Goldsmith on the mound, as he re-signed to the DockHounds this morning. He started scoring in the first for the Monarchs by allowing a solo home run to Casey Gillaspie.
In the third, Chad De La Guerra was walked and advanced to third off a Jan Hernandez double off the left field.
The DockHounds remained scoreless until the seventh inning when Tristen Carranza put a home run ball into the vistor's bullpen. The score was then 2-1, Kansas City.
The ninth brought a whole lot of excitement to the fans at Legends Field. Wilfredo Gimenez led off the inning with a double and had Efrain Contreras pinch run for him after the extra-base hit. Zion Pettigrew singled to put runners at the corners with just one out. Lamar Briggs drove in the tying run with a hard-earned single.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Matt Adams was rung up by Lake Country reliever Shea Murray. David Thompson tallied a base knock in the next at-bat. Thompson went to steal second when Casey Gillaspie brought in the big fella with a walk-off double. The final score was 3-2 with the Monarchs victorious.
For Lake Country, Goldsmith would allow two runs on seven hits, striking out seven. He would take the no-decision alongside Monarchs ace Matt Hall. Jameson McGrane won in relief while Murray took the loss.
