Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - Coming off the heroics from the American Association All-Star game on Tuesday, Manny Boscán's bat hasn't cooled off as the RedHawks first baseman went 3-for-3, with a solo home run, and a stolen base to lead the RedHawks (37-16) to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Dogs (35-18) on Thursday night at Newman Outdoor Field. The game was delayed by 54 minutes due to rain and was the first in a four-game series between the two top teams in the AAPB's East and West Divisions.

RedHawks starter Davis Feldman (4-2) opened the game with an immaculate first inning and continued to pitch well by striking out ten batters on six hits and three walks in 5.1 innings pitched. Feldman picked up his fourth win of the season after allowing two runs, one of which unearned.

Chicago opened the scoring in the fourth inning on a Danny Mars RBI single, but left the bases loaded to end the inning. Fargo-Moorhead responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take the lead right back. Designated hitter Nick Novak (2-for-3) drove in John Silviano on an RBI triple and then scored on a Christian Correa RBI double. In the fifth inning, Boscán hit an opposite-field solo home run to double the RedHawks lead.

However, the Dogs would make it a one-run game in the sixth inning when shortstop Connor Kopach drew a walk with the bases loaded. After allowing the walk to Kopach, Feldman came out of the game and was relieved by right-hander Tanner Riley, who got out of the jam and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out three batters. In the eighth inning, Joe Jones came in for a brief appearance before handing the ball off to Alex DuBord in the ninth. DuBord allowed two hits but worked to earn his 16th save of the season. The four RedHawks pitchers combined to strike out a season-high 16 batters in the win. Chicago starter Jordan Kipper (5-2) earned the loss after allowing the three runs on seven hits and a walk, despite striking out six batters.

Fargo-Moorhead and Chicago will continue their series tomorrow night at 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. Kevin McGovern (6-2, 4.03 ERA) will start in game two for the RedHawks and will face off against Dogs left-hander Shane Barringer (4-4, 5.87 ERA). The game will be broadcast on aabaseball.tv and on 740 the Fan (KNFL 740AM / 107.3FM).
