Kansas City Monarchs News Release
Kansas City, Kan. - The Kansas City Monarchs re-signed LHP Matt Hall, the Lee Summit, Missouri native, after his brief stint with the San Francisco Giants organization. Hall started two games for the San Francisco Giants' triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats. In his first start back with the Monarchs last night the lefty tossed six shutout innings in the Monarchs 3-2 win over Lake Country.
Before Hall's time with San Francisco, the former Missouri State University standout, was 4-1 with the Monarchs with a 1.29 ERA in 28 innings in 2022. He made five starts for Kansas City and was stellar in his last outing on June 10th at Chicago. Hall tossed six innings and allowed one earned run with 10 strikeouts in the Monarchs 10-2 win.
Hall, 28, has pitched in 25 major league games and made one start for the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. He was the 2015 sixth-round pick by the Detroit Tigers after his three seasons with Missouri State. Over the course of seven minor league seasons, Hall has appeared in 152 games and posted a 3.31 ERA in 540.1 innings with 591 strikeouts.
Earlier in the season, the American Association named Hall pitcher of the week in May. Hall earned this award with an exceptional start against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. He surrendered three hits, collected six strikeouts, and allowed zero runs through six innings of work. Hall retired the last five batters he faced and his strong start helped propel his team to a 6-1 victory over the RedHawks.
Hall is an American Association champion as he was on the Monarchs last year when the team defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the 2021 American Association championship. During the 2021 playoffs, he was a key component to the Monarchs pitching staff. Hall had a 2-0 record and accumulated eleven strikeouts in twelve innings. He had a pivotal impact on the historic championship run and helped the Monarchs claim the franchise's third title.
The Monarchs continue their three game series with the Lake Country DockHounds Friday night at Legends Field in Kansas City. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be heard on the Monarchs Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the video stream airing on aabaseball.tv.
