Allen Americans News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Allen Americans jumped on the Idaho Steelheads in the opening period, scoring two goals and holding on for a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night at Century Link Arena.
Greger Hanson opened the scoring for the Americans at the 4:44 mark of the first period, with his first of the playoffs from Eric Roy to give Allen a 1-0 lead. Allen would score again before the frame ended, as David Makowski blasted one home from the high-slot for his first of the playoffs and Allen had a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play. The Americans outshot Idaho 17 to 7 in the first period.
Idaho would respond in the second when Tommy Fallen scored on the power play to cut the lead to 2-1. The Americans would answer at 11:44 of the second frame when Matt Register, netted his first of the playoffs with the man-advantage, as Allen took a 3-1 lead to the room, despite being outshot 18 to 5 in the second frame.
The third period provided no offence from either side, as Riley Gill would hold off great pressure from Idaho down the stretch to win his second straight game, and help give the Americans back home-ice in the series after a 3-1 win, and a 2-1 series lead.
"We had a strong start tonight, which is very important on the road," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "Riley Gill was solid and the Asuchak, Hanson and Stevenson line is starting to heat up."
Idaho outshot the Americans 38-30 for the game. The Americans went 2 for 3 on the power play, and now have four power play goals in their last two games. Game 4 is Friday night in Boise with an 8:10 puck-drop.
