Gilbreath Dominates in Another Extra-Inning Win

Asheville Tourists News Release
COLUMBIA - Apparently nine innings is not enough baseball for the Asheville Tourists. In seven games played since the All-Star break, the Tourists have found themselves in extra-innings four times. All four have turned into victories; including Friday's 5-3 win over the Columbia Fireflies.
Lucas Gilbreath was outstanding. Gilbreath pitched a season-high seven innings and did not allow a run. The left-hander scattered four hits and struck out three. Gilbreath's starting pitching performance gave the Tourists a ton of momentum against a Columbia team that is very difficult to beat at home.
Asheville plated a run in the third inning on Sean Bouchard's RBI single to left. Nic Motley made it 2-0 with an RBI single to center in the fourth. The game remained 2-0 until the bottom of the eighth despite the Tourists consistently applying pressure to the Fireflies.
In the bottom of the eighth, Columbia rallied to tie the score 2-2. Both teams went scoreless in the ninth and once the game reached extras Asheville felt right at home.
Casey Golden bunted in the first run in the top of the tenth and Taylor Snyder drove in the eventual game-winner with a two-out single to short. Asheville then executed a double-steal to pick up a crucial insurance run.
Columbia made things interesting in the bottom of the tenth. Braxton Lorenzini struck out the leadoff batter but then issued a pair of walks and threw a wild pitch. Lorenzini settled in and finished the game by striking out the final two Fireflies' hitters for his first save of the season.
Asheville swiped a season-high seven bases and Motley led the way with three hits. The Tourists now head to Lexington to open up a four-game series with the Legends on Saturday night.
