Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists dominated the Columbia Fireflies for 14 innings on Saturday night. The Tourists won both games of the double-header; 5-1 in game one and 8-0 in game two. The Fireflies mustered a grand total of three hits over the two contests.

Lucas Gilbreath and Will Gaddis started game one and game two respectively. Gilbreath tossed five scoreless frames and surrendered one hit; an infield single in the second inning. The Tourists lefty struck out seven batters and cruised to his fifth win of the season.

Gaddis was just as impressive in game two. The right-hander threw six shutout innings and his only blemish was a two-out double in the first inning. Gaddis retired the final 14 batters he faced and needed only 58 pitches on the night.

Columbia scored their only run over both contests in the first game on an RBI groundout where the Tourists were content to take an out at first base. Asheville built a 5-0 lead in game one with some potent offense. Ryan Vilade smacked an RBI triple in the first inning to score Matt Hearn. Ramon Marcelino added an RBI single later in the frame.

Matt McLaughlin peppered an RBI double off the wall in the third and Sean Bouchard clubbed a two-run double in the fourth. The Tourists finished game one with ten hits compared to Columbia's two. Nate Harris and Braxton Lorenzini came in to relieve Gilbreath and pitch out the win.

Offense was tough to come by in the second game for a few innings. The Tourists took a 1-0 lead on a bases loaded walk drawn by Nic Motley. Tyler Bugner's fourth inning RBI single put Asheville in front 2-0. Then in the fifth, the Tourists broke the score open with a four-run inning that included RBI hits from Todd Czinege and Hearn.

The Tourists added two more in the sixth and finished the game with ten hits again. Columbia managed one hit the whole game. Moises Ceja spelled Gaddis and worked a perfect seventh. The shutout was the third tossed by the Tourists this year and the second over the last four days.
