
Extra, Extras: Legends Swept by Blueclaws in Doubleheader

FIRSTENERGY PARK (Lakewood, NJ) - The Lexington Legends and Lakewood Blueclaws met for a doubleheader, with both games going into extra innings. The Blueclaws took the two games from the Legends in one-run games, but Lexington remains in first place in the Southern Division. The Legends are 1.0 ahead of the Greenville Drive.
In game one, the Blueclaws plated their first run in the bottom of the first inning. Simon Muziotti led off with a single to right field. Jake Scheiner then doubled him home and Lakewood led, 1-0.
The Legends tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Nick Pratto blasted a solo homer to right field. MJ Melendez then singled to centerfield and advanced to second on a groundout by Jeison Guzman. Melendez scored on an RBI single to right centerfield by Cal Jones, and Lexington led 2-1.
Lakewood tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning courtesy of a leadoff homer by Scheiner and the game was knotted up again, 2-2.
The Blueclaws walked it off in the bottom of the tenth inning. Rodolfo Duran was placed at second base as the Pace of Play Runner, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Duran then scored the winning run when Josh Stephen hit a ground ball to Pratto at first who committed a throwing error and Lakewood took game one, 3-2.
Connor Brogdon was awarded the win for the Blueclaws pitching 1.0 inning of perfect relief. Danny Hrbek was given the loss for the Legends, tossing 1.1 innings allowing one run (unearned) while striking out two.
In game two, the Legends and Blueclaws were scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning. Jose Antequera was placed at second base as the Pace of Play Runner for the Lakewood. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Simon Muzziotti. Matt Vierling then popped up a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Antequera and the Blueclaws walked it off in game two, 1-0.
Zach Warren was awarded the victory for the Blueclaws tossing a perfect eighth inning. Robert Garcia was given the loss for the Legends, pitching 1.2 innings allowing one run (unearned) while walking one and striking out two.
The Legends and Blueclaws meet for the series finale tomorrow, August 5 at 1:05 p.m. Lexington will send LHP Daniel Lynch (3-0, 1.89 ERA) to face Lakewood's RHP Julian Garcia (5-2, 3.00 ERA).
