Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Last night it was the debut of a home town hero. His complete name is Daniel Gidora, but he is better known as Danny, and is a local graduate of Harlingen South High School. The valley native from Harlingen is now the newest addition to the WhiteWings pitching staff.

Danny started to play baseball when he was only a three year old toddler with the aid of his father who loves baseball. Through the years Danny played his little league ball all over Harlingen and the lower valley.

. Gidora says he chose to became a pitcher in his teenage years when he discovered in the mound was his comfort zone.

Gidora says this is the position he always wanted to play. He knew he was made to be a pitcher, knowing that he could offer an arsenal of different pitches. Last night that arsenal included a wicked breaking ball and fast ball which seemed to catch hitters off balance in last nights contest. The big tall righty managed to strike out three in his two innings of relief in last nights game.

The new WhiteWings prep career started with the Harlingen South Hawks making the varsity squad as a sophomore and having his best year in 2007 as a senior vaulting the hawks into the state playoffs. Gidora managed to take the Hawks to the Texas state championship game before going down in defeat to Houston Cy-Fair in a game that had the Hawks losing 6-1.

Yes this is Danny Gidora, your 24 years-old right hander and local hero who also played his college years with the former Scorpions of the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Gidora says he never gave up on his dream of playing professional baseball, and managed to keep looking towards that goal when he decided to give it a shot and throw his chances in the Texas Winter League which took place here last February. That league saw former WhiteWing hurler Henry Garcia get signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now thanks to that persistence, the young right hander at 24 has made his professional debut during Thursday nights game when the WhiteWings faced off against the Aces of Alexandria Louisiana.

The Wings won that contest 11-3 and now Danny Gidora is in the record books as a professional pitcher who hopes that maybe his talents will vault him into the next level of professional baseball. Danny's next scheduled appearance is on the radar for one of the WhiteWings next games during the Edinburg series at Historic Harlingen Field.
