Cats Third Rally Just out of Reach
June 7, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats failed to come from behind a third time in Friday night's game, falling to the San Angelo Colts 7-6 at LaGrave Field.
The Colts (7-7) got the scoring started early as designated hitter Kyle Nichols launched a two-run home run over the left field fence. Nichols went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the game.
The Cats (9-5) got those runs back in the bottom of the second when left fielder Aljay Davis drove in two runs with a double.
In the top of the sixth, San Angelo drove in three runs to go on top 5-2, but the lead was short lived. Chris Ellison knocked in the three runs with pinch hit, bases-clearing double in the bottom half after one run had already scored in the inning. The Cats led 6-5.
That lead would not last either. Relief pitcher James Giulietti surrendered a game-tying home run to the first batter in the seventh, shortstop Danny Hernandez.
San Angelo added the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, which would end up being the game-winner.
Hector Contin, who came on in relief of Giulietti, ended up with the loss and Colts reliever Cephas Howard earned the win, as he retired all six Cats batters he faced.
Kyle Pearson, who signed a contract with the Cats on Friday morning, went 0-for-3 with a run and two strikeouts in his first game with the team.
The Cats and Colts will square off in game three of the four-game home series Saturday at 7 p.m. at LaGrave Field.
