San Angelo Colts News Release

Fort Worth, Texas --- The Colts snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the Fort Worth Cats, 7-6, Friday night at LaGrave Field.

Centerfielder Oscar Garcia's eighth-inning RBI single proved to be the difference in the game. The base hit scored designated hitter Kyle Nichols from third. Nichols drew a leadoff walk, and moved into scoring position on sacrifice bunt by left fielder Braden Embry.

The Colts and Cats traded runs through the first seven innings. San Angelo took a 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to a two-run homer by Nichols. It was his third home run of the season.

Fort Worth tied the game in the bottom of the second. Left fielder Aljay Davis hit a two-RBI double that scored right fielder Alex Foltz and second baseman Kori Melo.

The Cats took a 6-5 lead with a four-run sixth inning. Pinch hitter Chris Ellison capped off the inning with a three-RBI double.

Colts shortstop Danny Hernandez tied the game again with a leadoff home run in the seventh. It was his first home run of the season.

Cats' relievers Hector Contin and Boomer Potts were unable to keep the game tied in the eighth. Contin (1-1) walked three batters, including Nichols, and was taken out for Potts. Potts then surrendered the RBI single to Garcia. The run was charged to Contin, and he took the loss.

Meanwhile, Colts' reliever Cephas Howard (1-0) pitched two shutout innings to earn his first win of the year. Closer Alfredo Caballero tossed a scoreless ninth for his third save.

The win improves the Colts to 7-7, while the loss drops Fort Worth to 9-5. This series continues with game three Saturday night at LaGrave Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live beginning at 6:50 p.m. on 1260 KKSA.
