Can-Am New Jersey Jackals

Giarraputo Returns, Fox Throws Seven Scoreless En Route To Win

May 26, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

The defense was good, the hitting was great, and the pitching was arguably better than both.

Making his second career start, Steve Fox threw seven shutout innings of two-hit ball, leading the Jackals to a 10-0 victory against the Lincoln Saltdogs on the University of Nebraska campus. Jeff Gogal and Mike Zenko threw two scoreless innings of relief.

"I'll take that every night," said pitching coach Ed Ott.

Francisco Caraballo's three-run opposite field home run in the third put the Jackals on top 4-0, while Angel Berroa's team-leading third home run the following inning gave the Jackals a 6-0 lead in the sixth.

Nick Giarraputo had the only defensive miscue of the game - a nominal ninth-inning error, but made up for it with a 4-5 night in his first game back from injury. He's 11-23 (.473) at the plate this season.

Clicking on all cylinders, who would guess this is the same team that lost 18-5 on Wednesday. On the same field the Nebraska Baseball Cornhuskers play, the Jackals improve to 5-3. The hometown Saltdogs drop to 4-5.

Tomorrow, the Jackals send out LHP Jon Kibler (1-0, 3.60 ERA). The Saltdogs will send out Justin Edwards (0-0, 9.00 ERA). First pitch is 8:05 ET. The pregame show begins ten minutes prior to first pitch.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2011 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
