Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants remain in top spot in the B.C. Division after returning home from their final road trip through the WHL's Central Division.
Last Friday night, the Giants dropped a 3-2 decision to the Medicine Hat Tigers. Wacey Rabbit and Kenndal McArdle each scored for Vancouver as the Giants out-shot the Tigers 29-22.
On Saturday, J.D. Watt broke out of a 12-game goal scoring drought with a pair of goals in a 5-1 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. McArdle, James Wright, and Spencer Machacek also scored in the victory. Machacek left the game with a concussion after receiving a blow to the head. He will be forced to miss taking part in the NHL/CHL Top Prospects Game this week.
Last night, the Giants concluded their road trip with a 2-0 loss against the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook. Goaltender Blaine Neufeld made 23 saves in the defeat while Ice netminder Taylor Dakers stopped all 31 shots the Giants fired his way.
The Giants enter this week in first place in the B.C. Division with a record of 29-9-3-4 and are one point up on the Kamloops Blazers. The Giants will have goalie Tyson Sexsmith, defenceman Jonathon Blum, and forward Michal Repik representing the club at the Top Prospects game Wednesday night in Quebec City.
Next week, the Giants will play three games in three nights. Friday January 19, the Giants travel to Everett to take on the Silvertips (7:35pm). Then on Saturday January 20, the Giants travel to Kelowna for the first time this season to play the Rockets (7:00pm). On Sunday January 21, the Giants return to the Pacific Coliseum to host the Silvertips (4:00pm).
