Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants have progressed on to the WHL's Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history after defeating the Portland Winterhawks in Round 2.
In Game 3 in Portland last Wednesday, the Giants picked up a 4-3 win in overtime. Kyle Lamb scored a pair of goals in regulation while Gilbert Brule netted the winner in overtime.
On Thursday night in Game 4, Jason Reese scored twice and goaltender Dustin Slade made 34 saves in a 3-1 win at the Rose Garden. Spencer Machacek had the other Giants goal, giving Vancouver a chance to wrap up the series on home ice.
The Giants concluded the series Easter Sunday with a 2-0 win over the Hawks at the Pacific Coliseum. Brule and Milan Lucic netted the Giants goals while Slade picked up his third shut-out of the post-season. The Giants out-shot Portland 48-13 to clinch the series 4-1.
Vancouver now moves on to face the Everett Silvertips in the Western Conference Finals. This is the second time in the last three years the Giants and Silvertips will face each other in the post-season. The Giants will open up the series at home Friday April 22 at 7:30pm with Game 1 while Game 2 takes place Saturday April 23 at 7:00pm. A complete series schedule will be released in the near future.
