The Vancouver Giants have acquired 19 year-old defenceman STEWART THIESSEN from the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for a 6th round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2005.

Thiessen is a 6'1", 180lbs blue-liner from Carman, Manitoba. Originally a 6th round bantam pick of the Regina Pats in 2000, Thiessen has spent time in the WHL with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Everett Silvertips, and Kelowna Rockets. Last season, he joined the Rockets for 17 playoff games and was a part of the Memorial Cup winning team.

"Stewart brings more experience and depth to our current group of defencemen," says Giants General Manager Scott Bonner. "He's been on winning teams in the past and we expect him to help the younger players on our blue-liner as our season progresses."

The Giants now have 24 players on their roster (2 goalies, 8 defencemen, 14 forwards). That total includes 4 20 year-olds and 4 19 year-olds.

Thiessen will wear #7 for the Giants and is expected in the line-up tonight when Vancouver plays host to the Spokane Chiefs. Face off is 7:00pm at the Pacific Coliseum.
