Giants Cruise to Victory Behind 10-Run Inning

The San Jose Giants erupted for 10 runs in the top of the second inning on Thursday night and never looked back en route to a 10-3 win over the host Lake Elsinore Storm at The Diamond. The 10-run outburst marked the Giants' highest scoring inning of the season as all nine players in lineup scored in the frame. With the victory, San Jose (63-36) has now claimed the first three games in the series against the Storm and won eight of nine on their Southern California road trip.

The marathon top of the second saw the first nine Giants hitters of the inning reach base safely and all nine eventually came home to score. Back-to-back singles from Luis Matos and Patrick Bailey started the rally before Harrison Freed worked a walk to load the bases. Luis Toribio was then hit by a pitch to force home Matos with the first run. Grant McCray followed with an RBI single and then a wild pitch scored Freed to make it 3-0. Rodolfo Bone was up next and he doubled to left bringing home two more runs for a 5-0 advantage. The onslaught continued when Yorlis Rodriguez produced his own RBI double stretching the lead to 6-0. After Ghordy Santos singled, Jimmy Glowenke stepped to the plate and launched a three-run home run to left center - the ninth straight hitter of the inning to reach base - for a 9-0 cushion.

The Storm finally recorded the first out when Matos, who had led off the inning, flied out to center. However, Bailey then reached on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball. Then with two outs, Toribio delivered an RBI single as Bailey came home with the 10th and final run of the inning.

The 10-run top of the second would prove to be more than enough offensive support for the San Jose pitching staff on Thursday. Wil Jensen started on the mound and fired six solid innings with two runs allowed. Jensen began his outing with three scoreless frames before Lake Elsinore plated two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth. The Giants right-hander though bounced back with a six-pitch bottom of the fifth and then worked around a one-out single in a scoreless sixth inning to complete his start.

The Storm's Gilberto Vizcarra smacked a solo home run off of San Jose reliever Ty Weber in the bottom of the seventh to bring the margin to 10-3. Weber though prevented further damage in the inning and then kept Lake Elsinore off the board in the bottom of the eighth. Brooks Crawford slammed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

GIANTS NOTES

Three Straight Wins

The Giants have scored a total of 25 runs over the first three games of the series in Lake Elsinore - all victories. San Jose has now won seven consecutive games against the Storm this season (7-2 overall).

10-Run Inning

San Jose sent 14 batters to the plate in the top of the second and scored 10 runs on eight hits. The Giants' highest scoring inning this season prior to Thursday was a nine-run frame on July 16 at Modesto.

Hitting Leaders

Jimmy Glowenke's (1-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) home run was his 10th of the season. Rodolfo Bone (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Ghordy Santos (2-for-5), Luis Matos (2-for-5) and Patrick Bailey (2-for-5) also finished with multi-hit games on Thursday. The Giants out-hit the Storm 12-9.

On The Mound

Wil Jensen (7-3) earned his seventh win of the season - tied with Carson Ragsdale for the team lead. Jensen allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out two during his six-inning outing. Ty Weber (2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 SO) and Brooks Crawford (1 IP, 0 R, 1 SO) each saw action out of the Giants bullpen.

Playoff Race

The Giants (63-36) maintained their eight-game lead over Modesto (55-44) and 8 1/2 game advantage over Rancho Cucamonga (54-44) in the Low-A West playoff race with 21 games remaining in the regular season. Thursday's victory also pulled San Jose to within one game of Fresno (64-35) for the best record in the league.

Roster Move

Outfielder Carter Williams was reinstated from the development list before the game on Thursday.

On Deck

The Giants and Storm play the fourth game of their six-game series on Friday evening with first pitch at The Diamond set for 7:05 PM. Kyle Harrison is San Jose's scheduled starting pitcher.
