Vancouver Giants News Release

The Vancouver Giants have announced they have signed 19-year-old forward MATT ROBINSON to a WHL contract. Robinson signed his agreement with the Giants organization this afternoon at the Giants pracitce facility at the Tilbury Ice Centre.   Robinson, a 6'1", 180 lbs. left winger from White Rock, B.C. comes to the Giants after starting this season with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL. Last year, Robinson played with the South Surrey Eagles, where he was a point-per-game player at the Tier 2 level.   "We added Matt to our player protected list earlier this season and we're delighted that he has decided to join our team," says Giants General Manager Scott Bonner. "He's a player that stood around 5'5" in his bantam draft year, so nobody selected him. He's grown a lot in a short period of time, and we're very happy to have him in our future plans"   In 60 games with the Eagles last year, Robinson scored 33 goals, added 30 assists, and picked up 70 penalty minutes. In the playoffs for South Surrey, he had 4 goals and 5 assists in 13 games.   Robinson started this season in Port Alberni after an off-season trade with the Eagles. In 7 games with the Bulldogs this year, he scored 5 goals and added 7 assists.   "Matt is a proven scorer the past couple of seasons playing at the Junior A level," adds Bonner. "When he's healthy enough to join our club, we expect him to add an extra element of skill and experience to our line-up for the remainder of this season."   Robinson is currently recovering from an ankle injury and is not expected to make his Giants debut until early November. Matt's younger brother Garrett Robinson is into his rookie season in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Giants will play against the Warriors January 4 at the Pacific Coliseum.   Here is Robinson's statistics from his time spent in the BCHL.   Matt Robinson
